Play is good read

I saw this play in NYC with Jared Harris and Blair Brown and really enjoyed it. It was funny and moving and really had heart. When I picked it up to read it, I wondered if it would read as well -- and it did. This is a very smart play -- Charlotte Jones has written a play where the characters are fully realized and funny -- all the while searching for understanding, connection and love.

Fresh, clever, gentle and poignant

I just saw this play produced at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. There are only so many family skeletons you can expose, and "Humble Boy" borrows liberally from that well-stocked closet. But those it drags out are embodied in well-defined characters and presented with fresh wit, excellent pacing, gentleness, and poignancy. Felix's search for the physicist's "theory of everything" is handled lightly, never bogs down in technical jargon, and never overshadows the characters' concerns of the heart. Although I would have preferred a slightly different ending, it worked because the characters were true to themselves. A wonderful play.

"Humble Boy" by Charlotte Jones, is a well crafted and poignantly funny little play. The characters are cleverly drawn with all being sympathetic and despicable in different mixtures. This gives all of us who read it pause to consider how we treat and react with others who may have, by no fault of their own, fallen into an undesired or different life or life-style. Great sexual tension!

Wow, I can't believe that this was a first book, it was so well-written! Trevor is every guy who's been forced into miserable family trip--except that he runs into one hot, grumpy guy and has a huge adventure. Trevor is easy to relate to and I really love that the situation isn't some far-fetched setup. Bear is a grumpy, growly bear of a guy who's fighting a fierce attraction and signs that are trying to tell him it's something more. There's not an "oh my God he's my one true mate" thing right off the bat and a inta-love lifetime commitment. The shifter part of the story is made interesting with a few things outside the standard lore and there's plenty of shifting--and exciting action--going on. To give the story some color other than the relationship and the suspense over the big secret, we have Fallon who is hilarious and lovable. I liked the way the story wrapped up too. I could see someone of the other minor characters like Fallon and even Dmitri having stories of their own in later books.

Bear and Trevor didn't understand the pull between them but Fallon made it fun and very entertaining. I hope to read more about these characters in future books. Even all the secondary characters could carry a story of their own. Except Sheila, I really didn't like that character. This story had a fantastic flow, great characters and HOT insta-wet moments. The storyline itself was well written and refreshing. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!!

Cognitive Behavior Therapy: Applying empirically supported techniques in your practice brings together the techniques as a study guide for practitioners. Each chapter is organized in a comprehensive manner, providing a considerable scope and utility of many individual techniques. Chapter one explains that 80 diverse techniques exist in cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which creates an additional burden for therapists seeking to become skilled in them. Meanwhile, chapter two discusses psychological acceptance by examining the movement of promoting acceptance of suffering and how improvement results in quality of life rather than changing the client's negative experience. This movement of the models emphasizing acceptance versus change is empirically supported, thereby demonstrating that by trying to suppress thoughts a rebound effect will occur. Indeed, the research findings indicate that CBT thought-stopping might be ill advised. The problems with trying to restructure problematic thoughts using suppression could result in intensification, followed by the clients elaborating upon those thoughts. Cognitive therapists have challenged the theoretical argument that simply targeting thoughts to make effective changes may not be successful in the long term.
CBT includes specific aspects. First, CBT philosophically originated from behaviorism based on the key idea that science and psychology are combined. The second aspect is the theoretical framework that focuses on specific problems and assesses the principles that what makes the problem also creates the causes. The third aspect is the knowledge base that relies on group and individual experimental designs. Measurement in the therapeutic treatment and the skilled technical aspect of the therapist in the execution of the techniques are also key aspects. The multiple choice questions were indeed very challenging, but I saw them as a good representation of the LNAT questions. I found the feedback which it gave particularly helpful, equally for the multiple choice and the essays. It's the only book I bought to study and I the tips were excellent!
