About the Author
Ellen Notbohm is the parent of a child with autism. She is a columnist for the Autism Asperger's Digest and her articles on autism regularly appear in a number of magazines including Exceptional Parent and Children's Voice. Veronica Zysk has been working in the field of autism since 1991. She served as Executive Director of the Autism Society of America from 1991 to 1996.

Wonderful book!

Of all the books I've purchased on the subject of Autism, this one is by far the best one. I was so tired of all the clinical, academic, despairing accounts of ASD in other books, that I stopped reading any material on Autism altogether.
But, this book is completely packed with not only great ideas for teaching and raising our child with ASD, but for ENJOYING our child with ASD!! Finally! The authors bring a sense of sweet humor to daily life, with a real-life sensibility that is missing from every piece of Autism literature I've seen. Instead of focusing on the "differences" we face every moment of every day, the authors just dig in and get to the business of enjoying each "challenge". For instance, the idea that "You Don't Have To Brush ALL Of Your Teeth" was so simple yet so freeing! Every idea offers several different variations, which I found to be very helpful.

not much new for seasoned parent

I bought this book, thinking that with 1001 great ideas, there would be a few new ideas for teaching my 11.5yr old with ASD. Unfortunately, upon receiving the book, I realized that my family had already learned most of these strategies the hard way. So the book was not very useful for us. I loaned it out to a friend with a younger child on the spectrum, and she found it to be quite helpful.
So: good info, but not much new if you've been there and done that.
