My Daughter's Favorite Book by Dr. Seuss

Researchers constantly find that reading to children is valuable in a variety of ways, not least of which are instilling a love of reading and improved reading skills. With better parent-child bonding from reading, your child will also be more emotionally secure and able to relate better to others. Intellectual performance will expand as well. Spending time together watching television fails as a substitute.
To help other parents apply this advice, as a parent of four I consulted an expert, our youngest child, and asked her to share with me her favorite books that were read to her as a young child. One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish was her pick as the best of the books by Dr. Seuss.
One of the appeals of this book is that it is relatively easy to learn to read, yet has much more variety than most other early readers. So your child will feel like she or he has accomplished a lot with reading this book, which is correct.
The title gives the key to why this book works well as an early reader. One word is changed at a time, with a clear illustration next to it. Most children will read the illustrations like a rebus and later associate the words with the sounds of the name for the pictures. At some point, they begin reading from the words. Very nice!
Here's another sequence: "black fish blue fish old fish new fish."
Then, when he moves on, he uses simple rhymes: "This one has a little star. This one has a little car."
Next, he progresses to substituting "some" for "fish" and adding a single verb to make a sentence as in "Some are read . . . . Some are old."
So almost any child can soon begin to read along with few errors in the first 2 or 3 pages. Whenever the child can go no more, you can just keep going. With repetition, more of the book becomes memorized and the process continues.
There is another reward for you and your child: The book also previews many of the wonderful characters and rhyming schemes that appear in other Dr. Seuss books. As a result, it will be easier to get started reading those books. You will feel like you are seeing an old friend again.
You can also use each rhyme to take off on your own speculations. Our daughter used to love to come up with alternative rhymes that fit the pictures.
Books like this one make it great fun to be either a parent or a child. In some cases, this book will be there for you in both roles over 20 to 40 years!
Overcome your mistaken beliefs about how children can start to learn to read by seeing your child start naturally by associating the words with the pictures as you read this wonderful book to him or her!

A great book that doesn't drive parents nuts

The thing I like most about this book is it survives the perpetual-reading test, that is, neither my daughter nor I am tired of reading it after two years.
"One Fish..." is really composed of several "short" sections that can be read in any order, so for a toddler, it's perfectly fine to skip around. In fact, this is conducive to a toddler's randomness - one day it's "Hop hop hop, I am a Yop"; another day it's "From there to here."

Allright ya little PUNKS. You go read your Tom Clancys and your sappy Danielle Steel romance novels and your "Bridges of Madison County"s and we can even go back time to your Mark Twains and your "Catcher In The Rye"s, you go read ALL of that. Then read THIS book, and YOU tell me which one is better. Because NONE of that can match the emotional intensity of reading to your kids at bedtime: "Once there was a little Nook. On his hat he had a hook. On his hook he had a book. On his book was "How to Cook". But a Nook can't read and a Nook can't cook, so what good to a Nook is a hook cook book?" AWESOME!

Best dream book out there, hands down!

I think very highly of this book. Dreams used to disturb me deeply, and interpreting them has been helpful and empowering. This book offers insight into dreams in an almost unexpectedly therapeutic way. It gets real deep, and leaves out all the cheesy stuff. It's an intuitive guide for self reflection and insight about what my dreams are really trying to tell me. It's really put my mind at ease to know that dreams that are more disturbing in nature, actually have a purpose and are not simply happening without useful meaning. The author does a great job in the way they talk about processing and "breakthrough" dreams. The language is insightful, empowering and therapeutic. Finally, they have been consistently on point with symbolism - even the most arbitrary symbols have proven to be contextual and relevant to my waking life. This is THE dream book to get.

Very typical Freudian concepts. I believe most dreams are self explanatory, if only given a slight amount of thought. However, a fun book to leave around. If you dream of a chicken, and think you have a secret desire to be one, well, the yolks on you.

If you're looking for a REALLY good dream book.....keep looking. This book is more like a vague dictionary of one word terms. Dreams are a bit more complex than this book can put a definition on. Horrible read, I have probably picked it up twice and the second time was only because I'm into second chances.

Solid Read

Femi's book is well organized, succinct, and easy to read. I love that he teaches both the theory as well as the python methodology. As someone with a math and programming background, I did notice some slight errors. However, nothing that detracted from the overall merit of the book. Definitely a solid read for someone trying to get into data science!

Great reference tool

This book is brilliantly done. I own and have used quite a few Pandas for 'x', Python for 'x' titles that go through the basics of the tool, but leave the reader without a clear understanding of the theoretical basis. Mastering Pandas, however, provides the all the necessary context. I used it to level up my skillset quickly while taking a data science course, and I found it invaluable. R users will be delighted to find that there are detailed comparisons between R and Pandas--you can port your knowledge quickly from one context to the other. I gave Mastering Pandas 5 stars because I find that while working, I tend to have it open to use as a quick reference tool.

My first deck...

I bought this deck as my first beginners one because I didn't like the artwork of some of the other beginner deecks (Raider Waite, Robin Wood). The backs of the cards are bright blue with white stars. This deck has completely illustrated minor arcana cards with objects and people (besides just the ten pentacles or the three swords) so you can learn the stories of these cards. This helps when it comes to committing them to memory. Unlike the Raider Waite deck, the illustrated minor arcana are not as extremely detailed, I liked this because it wasn't distracting and I didn't feel overwhelmed with too much side information about each card. I really like this deck because of the bold lines and colors to the illustrations. It suits my personality perfectly!

You won't be disappointed,

It's difficult to reccommend a tarot deck because everyone is different, and has their own preferences. However, I have 3 other tarot decks, and this one, I am drawn to the most when I do readings. For me, a certain powerful energy is released when I use the deck. The colours on the cards are dark, and not as bright as the Rider-Waite deck. That did take some time to get used to. The book that comes with the deck is a good resource, but is skimpy on some interpretations on the readings. The back of the cards are blue, with white stars. In all, it's an excellent deck, at least in my opinion. If you bought it, I don't feel you would be disappointed.

This is my 5th set of cards and my favorite when doing readings. Its very easy to understand you dont have to focus on the pictures a long time to try to understand its meanings.
The colors are VERY nice. It has an old look to it and the cards are beautiful. This deck is good for beginners or the advanced. This is the deck I would recommend to everyone.
