By growing financially you’ll expand your horizons. Direct selling is a personal growth business, and it is impossible to grow your business without growing yourself. They create contacts in their community by speaking at clubs and professional associations, and sponsoring events and fund-raisers.

6. As a direct seller, you’re in business for yourself but not by yourself. You’ll receive all the support you need from your corporate partner and from the person who sponsored you into the business, and in turn you’ll experience immense satisfaction from helping the people you sponsor. You’ll spend your time with people who aspire to have more, do more, and be more in their lives, as you do. Their energy and excitement will kindle yours, and their successes will inspire you to reach higher.

This is the book you must have

I think Mary has out done yourself with this book.
I was hesitate to get this book since I already have her other books because I was unsure the difference of Be A Network Marketing Superstar and Be A Direct Selling Superstar but believe it or not there is a big difference in the two books
You must also check out her audio workshop CD's . I really enjoy listening to the person vs reading myself.
I am so glad that she will be a speaker at our convention again since she is such a wonderful speaker/ presenter and her and her husband are wonderful in person.
This book is exactly what I needed to get my business back on track to achieve my goals and to help me improve with working with the different personality types and to get my team to the top.

Extremely useful for all types of sales
I was pleasantly surprised when I read this book. I thought it was going to be about business to business selling but instead quickly found out that it was of course about selling products to consumers thought networking as well as direct sales. But there was something about this book that was so engaging that I decided to keep flipping the pages; and I was glad I did.
This book is literally a primer for good sales methods, techniques and habits that are completely pertinent and useful to all of us in sales, heck to all of us in s professional business career.
The book is chock full of great advice on a number of subjects from networking to the disciplines needed for making and keeping your own schedule.
I have to say that just about all of the advice I found here can be applied to sales people both direct and reps who are out here in their own territories, on their own.
The chapter called Turn your shining stars into super stars is in itself worth the price of this book:
From that chapter here are the: Eight steps to keeping your leadership program focused and simple
1. Start developing every new aspiring leader by conducting a one-on-one Moving Up interview that establishes goals.
2. Schedule regular leadership training to drive momentum.
3. Allocate the last week of each month to review the month and finalize planning from next month.
4. Leadership training doesn’t have to be complicated.
5. Training is worthless if it’s not followed by action.
6. Commitment and accountability are the keys to leadership.
7. Although you’ll make yourself as available and accessible as possible, the purpose of your leadership program is to develop independently functioning leaders.
8. You may have to face situation in which someone in the program stalls before promoting the plan.
See what I mean? This is all good clear advice for any sales manager who is tasked with managing, measuring and motivating any sales force.
I know that a lot of this is plain common sense that we all have learned at one time or another but seldom have I seen it all in one place an so well laid out which makes sense because when you think about it people are people and sales is sales.
Whether you are selling Avon products or printed circuit boards the same basic principles still apply.
Don’t pass this one up just because you’re not exactly involved direct sales… this one is for all of us in sales, you’ll like this book I promise you.

If your kids enjoy dinosaurs what could be more fun than being able to draw one . This shows them how to draw many different ones. Very easy to understand. Simple to draw,easy designs to manover.
My grandson's and granddaughter's love it.
Would make a nice addition to any drawing collection for kids.

With short stories, lovely yarns, and amusing tales Zig Ziglar effectively brings his points across. He has such a "good ole boy" way of telling stories that get to the heart of things.

My 3 main takeaways are
1) Are you kicking your cat?
If you are having a bad day, you are probably taking it out on someone or something else. Everyone has problems, and sometime we have to look a little deeper to find out why.

2) If you want to improve your life, improve your vision
Try to find something good in everything and everyone.

3) Get Motivated Regularly
Motivation is like taking a shower. It wears off, so to stay motivated, we need to be constantly and regularly be motivativated. Hang around the right people, keep learning, keep doing the right things.

A wonderful book to pick you up and keep you motivated.

A Classic Worthy To Be Read Again and Again

I had listened to the audio book years ago but recently purchased this for my Kindle specifically for the step by step outline of Zig's goal setting methodology. There was so much more I needed to reread. A book like this may be written in the future but it's not likely. The wonderful blend of common sense ideas with Biblical principles would be shelved for fear of offending someone. Zig was always sensitive to this without wavering in his presentation of the information. I for one think it's incredible an a reason why I listen to the Ziglar podcast these days. That same faith based principled idealism comes through and it's likely why the podcast is among the highest ranked in the Apple and Android stores.

You cannot go wrong with this book. You can read it and then go back and read the sections as needed to build up the various areas of your life needed. It's a one of a kind book that way. Zig's seminal masterpiece!

I went to the library to get this book for my 12-year-old son to read and write a review on over the summer. He loved it so much that he asked me to buy him his own copy. Here is his review:

“See You at the Top” by Zig Ziglar is different than most reading material in that the main character is YOU. It isn’t an adventure book or action book, it focuses on helping YOU. This book is, to quote Ziglar, “THE “How to” book that gives YOU a “Checkup” from the “Neck up” to eliminate “Stinkin Thinkin” and AVOID “Hardening of the Attitudes”. “See You At The Top” is a motivational book that was written in a fashion suited for helping develop good, healthy lifestyles. It shows how we can help expose the bad in our lives and change it to good!

Before I talk about the book, I wanted to share some interesting facts about the author. His true name is Hilary Hilton Ziglar and he was born prematurely on November 6th in Coffee County, Alabama. He was his parents’ tenth child. Nine days later, however, he died (according to his doctor) but was revived in his grandmother’s arms! He would later serve in the U.S. Navy before becoming a famous author.

This book was well written, in my opinion, and its genre compliments the writing style. Published by Pelican Publishing Company, Inc. in 1975 and revised in 1977, it has stood the test of time. The genre is non-fiction and I do believe that Zig was very convinced that every man can succeed financially and socially, regardless of circumstances. One of the stories he used to illustrate this was about a balloon salesman who, whenever business would slow down, would release a red balloon, yellow or green at varied times. Then a little black boy came up to him and asked, “Mister if you were to release a black balloon, would it go up?” and the salesman responded wisely, saying “Son, it’s not the outside that matters, it is what is inside that makes them go up”.

He goes on to talk about the six steps for success: self-image; relationships with others; goals; attitude; work; and desire. To help explain these steps of success, Ziglar included numerous stories. Some are about overcoming huge obstacles, some are parables, but all talk about the need to be honest, full of integrity, and faithful every day. One, in particular, was very interesting to me. It goes, “There was a young businessman who needed to get his work done for the day, but his little son kept bothering him every two or three minutes. He then decides that he would never get his work done at this rate, so he took a world magazine and took a page that had a picture of the Earth on it, and tore it into many big pieces. He told his son to put it back together, assuming that that would keep him busy for a while, but ten minutes later, he came back with the map complete. Shocked, the businessman asked his son how he had done it, which he responded with, “There was a picture of a man on the back, and once I got the man right, I got the world right!” Bottom line: If you get yourself right, you get your world right.

Ziglar also used many symbols to help further his point, including items such as pump handles, fleas, and biscuits. These are explained at different points in the book, and help explain the chapters themselves. I learned that our life can be changed drastically by our mood for the day, and this can be improved by a couple of steps that are stated in the book. One is how we wake up. We can wake up thinking it is a new day that will have lots of good things in store rather than thinking it’s just another yesterday. Another is how we respond to people. When someone asks you how your day is, you usually are not very enthusiastic about it. Instead, say something like “I’m super great! But I’ll get better.”

I really enjoyed reading this book and I believe that every person can relate to this book in one way or another. I HIGHLY recommend this book to any reader that wants a moderately difficult read but jam packed full of humor, information, and motivation.

The biggest thing I walked away with was THERE AIN’T NO FREE LUNCH, there ain’t. In other words, you have to work to succeed. You can only reap what you sow. The farmer should not pray to God, saying “Lord, if you plant the first crop, then I will work real hard during the next harvest.”

Poor, Colored, and Queer in 1967

Written in the mid-70s, set in the late 60s, about a mixed race stud (butch) named Flip and her life and trials in the San Francisco ghetto. Her Welfare-mandatory meetings at a clinic that happens to be a women's group in the tradition of early feminist "consciousness raising" sessions. Her exploits with prostitutes on the 'ho stroll', starved for love and affection; her depression and contemplations of suicide. It's sad but moving, and in the end hopeful. Most of the trials Flip goes through can be translated today: same ish different decade.

Trailblazing play

Tea and Sympathy was written by Robert Anderson and staged by famed director, Elia Kazan. The play premiered on Broadway at the Barrymore Theatre on September 30, 1953 and had an incredible run of 712 performances, nearly two years. The principle actors were John Kerr, Deborah Kerr, Leif Erickson, and Dick York.

Tom Lee (Kerr) is a seventeen-year-old student at a New England prep school. He is a sensitive boy who enjoys reading and acting and aspires to being a folk singer. Tom also has a crush on his married house mistress, Laura Reynolds (Kerr) who is in her mid to late twenties. A rumor spreads throughout the campus falsely accusing Tom of being a homosexual. As Tom faces increasing bullying from the other students, Laura sympathizes with his dilemma. Laura's husband, teacher and house master, Bill Reynolds (Erickson), a prototypical "man's man," has no tolerance for Tom and resents his wife's growing interest in the boy. But Laura grows increasingly fond of young Tom whose kindness and consideration stand in marked contrast to her husband's cold aloofness. Tom attempts to dispel questions about his masculinity by visiting the town prostitute but his plan goes terribly awry. Bill is informed of Tom's botched indiscretion and eagerly begins the process to expel him from the school. Laura tries to intercede on Tom's behalf but Bill is inflexible. Laura surmises that Bill is against Tom because the boy reminds him of the skeletons in his own closet. After resolving to leave Bill, Laura goes to the defeated Tom and gives him the gift of his manhood. As Laura sits before Tom and her hand goes to the top button of her blouse she says, "Years from now - when you talk about this - and you will - be kind," one of the most famous closing lines in the history of American theater.

The inspiration for Tea and Sympathy came from Anderson's own experiences with an older woman while a student at Phillips Exeter Academy. Kazan's wife, Molly Day Thatcher was a strong supporter of the budding playwright and sent a copy of Tea and Sympathy to her husband. Tom's self-isolating interest in literature and the arts mirrored Kazan's own history; he liked the play immediately. Kazan later attributed the great success of the play to Deborah Kerr's performance. Kazan maintained close friendships with Anderson and Deborah Kerr throughout his life. Readers may be interested to know the Broadway cast featured a young Dick York of "Bewitched" fame as Al, Tom's roommate and only friend. Alan Sues played Ralph, one of Tom's chief tormentors. Quite ironically, Sues would achieve fame on the television show, "Laugh-In," with his flamboyantly gay persona. John Kerr won a Tony for his portrayal of Tom Lee.

Tea and Sympathy was certainly controversial for its time and many doubted it would ever be adapted to the screen. A film version of the play directed by Vincente Minnelli was released in 1956 with Kerr, Kerr, and Erickson reprising their roles. Some of the more controversial aspects of the play were deleted including Tom's scandal-causing skinny dip with a male teacher and inferences to homosexual behavior by Laura's first husband and Bill. An epilogue was added to please the Production Code censors showing Tom, ten years later, reading an apology letter from Laura. Those who enjoy the film would benefit by reading the uncensored play.

Tea and Sympathy was ahead of its time with its message of tolerance and inclusion. Anderson went on to write several other plays and film scripts but nothing that matched the great success of Tea and Sympathy.
